Pirate streaming site Soap2day is shut down, leaving its users in ruins.
On Tuesday, the pirate streaming site Soap2day unexpectedly announced its permanent closure, provoking an outpouring of mourning from its subscribers on social media. The website enabled users to view movies and TV episodes without having to pay for membership services.
The notification of Soap2day’s closure came early Tuesday morning when the site’s admins posted a brief farewell statement on the top page and wiped it of its material.
“Hello guys,” says the message. “We have decided to permanently close soap2day.” We really apologize:) Bye.” When you access the site, the tab title states “soap2day is closed.”
The disappearance of Soap2day has left its Twitter followers feeling quite sad. Many people are tweeting their amazement at the news, sometimes including GIFs of people sobbing. Thousands of people have liked and retweeted several tweets lamenting the closure of the site.
“First zlibrary and now soap2day, goodbye, you did more for cinema than many,” a user tweeted about the internet resource Z-Library, which went down in 2022 but has since reopened under a new name. The message received over 3,500 likes.
Soap2day has had problems before; according to reports, Google delisted the website in 2020. Since it unlawfully let users watch videos for free, many speculated that the cause was copyright infringement. According to a Google Transparency Report for the site soap2day., the business has received tens of thousands of requests to remove URLs from search results because they have violated the copyrights of rights holders including Disney and Warner Bros. About 30% of the queries were responded to by Google. Only 9 queries had no action taken, or around 70% were tagged as not being indexed.
Additionally, the closure comes only two weeks after RARBG, one of the biggest and most established torrent sites on the Internet, shut down, blaming the conflict in Ukraine, COVID-19, and inflation. The website was shut down by RARBG personnel at the end of May, with an explanation of the reasons posted on the homepage.
Twitter users are also posting alternative streaming websites as a result of the disappearance of Soap2day. Some people insist that Soap2day cannot be replaced.
