Famous YouTuber ‘Lord Miles’ is among the British nationals detained by the Taliban.
Famous British Youtuber Captured By Taliban: In his recordings, the self-described black tourist can be seen participating in a Taliban procession and exchanging gunfire with terrorists.
According to a humanitarian NGO that revealed information about the men’s incarceration over the weekend, three British citizens are being detained in Taliban captivity, including a notorious 23-year-old YouTuber who “[goes] to the most dangerous places on Earth for fun”
When Miles Routledge took a “holiday” to Afghanistan just before the Taliban seized power in 2021, he gained international renown under the internet alias Lord Miles. As Kabul fell in August of that year, he was later evacuated out of the nation by the British Army, gaining a place on an evacuation aircraft that was in great demand while hundreds of Afghans who had aided the Western coalition troops were left behind.
At the time, Routledge uploaded films and updates on Facebook and 4Chan. Later, he went back to Afghanistan and shot YouTube videos in which he participated in a Taliban parade and engaged in gunfire with Taliban fighters. There are more than 150,000 Twitter followers for the infamous YouTuber and self-described dark tourist. The 28th of February saw his last action on the platform.
He is now one of three individuals being detained by the Taliban secret police, along with Kevin Cornwell, a 53-year-old charity physician, and a third unnamed British person who runs a guesthouse in Kabul, according to Sky News.
On January 11, Taliban operatives claimed that Cornwell had an illegal handgun in a safe in his room at the Darya Village Hotel, leading to a search by members of the Taliban’s General Directorate of Intelligence (GDI) that resulted in the arrests of both Cornwell and the anonymous hotelier.
It’s unclear why Routledge was arrested right now. He was detained for interrogation after being detained on March 2 together with two Polish citizens, according to a senior European diplomatic source who spoke to The Telegraph.
Although there “has been no meaningful contact” with the men, according to Scott Richards, a negotiator for the British humanitarian NGO the Presidium Network who is assisting the families of Cornwell and the hotel manager, he thinks they are secure.
We do think they are healthy and receiving excellent care, Richards added. “We have no reason to assume they have undergone any unfavorable treatment, like torture. They are as excellent as can be anticipated under the circumstances, so we are informed.
Reuters was given the following statement from a representative of the British Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO): “We are working hard to secure consular contact with British nationals detained in Afghanistan and we are supporting families.”
